Synopsis
The first episode. Edward and Alphonse Elric attempt to bring their mother back to life using alchemy, but the attempt goes horribly wrong. Edward loses his right arm and left leg, and Alphonse loses his entire body. Cut to four years in the future, and Edward has regained his limbs while Alphonse wears a suit of armor - or so it seems.

Slip-ups
It took my arm! Er, I mean the other arm...
For parts of the introduction, Edward is missing the wrong arm - he should be missing the right, not the left. First he's clutching his missing leg with his left arm, then suddenly his left arm is missing. When he edges toward the body of his mother, his left arm is back again.
Edit: In retrospect, this might not have been an error at all. Although only one arm is visible at any given time, it's likely that what's actually happening is that Edward is leaning foward on his right arm (on the viewer's left) and clutching his missing leg with the other - thus it's not missing, merely hidden from view. This confusion is cleared up in episode 3, where it's clarified that Ed lost only his leg in the initial transmutation and didn't lose his arm until later.
